Introduction to Tablets for Professionals

This course will review the current state of iOS and Android technology for education. Essential cabling, setup, and configuration will be discussed. Finally, participants will be shown how to control the use of technology in the schools to best serve learning outcomes.

By the end of this presentation, viewers will able to:
1) Identify the two types of charging cables used for the iPad, iPhone, and iOS;
2) Describe how to organize applications into folders by theme;
3) Restrict student access to certain applications;
4) Use guided access to lock students into certain apps, set timers, and block off app capabilities as needed;
5) Give at least one reason why different students may require different sizes of iPad.

About Lucas: Lucas Steuber is an Applied Linguist and Speech-Language Pathologist based out of Portland, OR. In his capacity as researcher and clinician, Lucas has published on topics as diverse as language disorders in schizophrenia to the importance of child-centered curriculum. Lucas specializes in language and social thinking in pervasive disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). He is also a consultant and curriculum author in the areas of social language development and educational technology for special populations. In addition, he serves as a board ambassador to the Oregon Autism Society, sits on the Strategic Planning Committee of the Autism Society of America, and holds board positions with several local nonprofits.
