Presenter: Anna Dvortcsak, MS, CCC-SLP
The educational and behavioral needs of children with ASD are significant, several expert review panels have concluded that young children with ASD should receive a minimum of 25 hours per week of specialized intervention throughout the year. It is a challenge for public and private agencies to provide the level of intensity required to effectively treat toddlers and young children. Parent-mediated intervention is a way to increase the intervention hours a child receives and improve long-term outcomes for the child and family. A growing body of literature demonstrates that parent-mediated intervention is effective for improving outcomes for the child and the parent. The purpose of this presentation is to describe parent mediated intervention, elements of effective parent mediated intervention, and ways to address barriers to implementation in the community. Project ImPACT will be reviewed as an effective intervention that can be adapted to use in a variety community settings.

Following the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define Parent Mediated Interventions
  2. Identify Key Elements of Effective Parent Mediated Interventions
  3. Cursory knowledge of Project ImPACT
  4. Identify Strategies to Support Parent Mediated Interventions in the Community Setting
