In this episode Michelle is joined by the esteemed Crystal Murphree-Holden, MA CCC-SLP, who is the Director of Distance Education/Clinical Instructor at the University of South Carolina, as well as VP of Higher Education with SCSHA.  She was also a recent recipient of the Honors of the Association for SCSHA.  In this episode Crystal and Michelle attempt to clarify the muddied waters of SLPA vs. SLP Scope of Practice!  Haven’t heard of an SLPA?  Well you’re not alone!  Enjoy as Crystal enlightens, educates, and inspires us to consider our scopes in a new light!

Objective

By the end of this PodCourse, participants will be able to identify and

  1. Identify and describe 3 differences in the Scope of Practice of an SLP vs. and SLPA.
  2. Identify and explain 2 potential HIPAA violations if supervisory visits are conducted electronically.
  3. Identify and describe 3 differences in SLPA vs. CF Supervision.
About Crystal: Crystal Murphree-Holden, MA CCC-SLP, is currently Director of Distance Education and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of South Carolina. She has been on faculty at USC since 2004 and is involved in academic, clinical education and instructional aspects of graduate student training, and previously served as adjunct clinical instructor for twelve years. Crystal’s professional experiences included public schools, private practice, rehabilitation facilities, community clinics and university settings.

Crystal currently serves as Vice President on Higher Education and CE Content Consultant for the South Carolina Speech-Language-Hearing Association (SCSHA). She is a SCSHA Past President and also served as Professional Standards-Ethical Practices Chair for many years. Crystal has presented in the areas of ethics and supervision at local, state and national levels.


About Michelle: 
Michelle Dawson, MS, CCC-SLP is an accomplished lecturer and PEDs Therapist, she has written and given numerous ASHA approved CEU lectures on such topics as Infantile Spasm and Oropharyngeal Dysphagia, along with Apps and ST, and co-authored a course on Best Practices in EI.  She has also given an AOTA-approved lecture on Sensory Integration from the SLP perspective.  Michelle has delivered lectures at the SCSHA Convention and twice with the SCATP Expo.
