Pain Management: Pharmacology

Chronic pain requires pharmacological interventions. The different categories of medications used for treating chronic pain and our side effects are reviewed. Some medications are given a "black box warning" and these will be reviewed. The potential for harmful interaction between medications and nutritional supplements is discussed. Drug addiction and pseudo-addiction is reviewed.


Participants will learn:

  • 5 different medication classes for pain management and potential side effects.
  • Interactions of 3 pain medications and nutritional supplements.
  • The difference between pseudo-addiction and addiction.
