Documentation of skilled services has never been more crucial for appropriate reimbursement. Attendees at this session will identify and analyze the provision of skilled services to patients with dysphagia. Participants will be educated on Medicare and insurance guidelines, including writing appropriate goals and skilled daily notes.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify skilled vs. non-skilled services in the provision of services for patients with dysphagia.
  • Apply definitions of skilled service to daily documentation for medical necessity of services for patients with dysphagia.
  • Demonstrate goal writing for skilled dysphagia services through synthesis of information.
  • Integrate knowledge of requirements for Medicare and other major payer types in documentation and provision of skilled services.
About Amber: Dr. Amber Heape is a clinical specialist for a large healthcare company, where she works with OT, PT, andST staff within rehab departments to improve documentation and provision of clinical services to maximize patient outcomes. She holds a Doctor of Clinical Science degree, is an adjunct professor, and teaches live, webinar, and interactive continuing education courses on the national and international circuits. Amber is a former president of the SC Speech-Language Hearing Association and is the ASHA’s State Advocate for Medicare Policy (STAMP) representative for SC. Amber’s clinical passion is serving the aging population, and making a difference in their quality of life. She is a Certified Dementia Professional and volunteers with organizations that promote and preserve quality care in the elderly.
