Numerous peer-reviewed studies have demonstrated that treating complex sounds and sequences leads to more efficient gains in overall intelligibility for children with phonological disorders. In this podcourse, participants will be presented with practical, evidence-based strategies to implement the complexity approach and facilitate efficient changes in intelligibility and meaningful outcomes for students with phonological disorders.


By the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify three best practices for phonological evaluations
  2. Describe how to strategically select therapy targets when implementing the complexity approach
  3. Identify three treatment activities that can be used when implementing the complexity approach
About Jennifer: Jennifer Taps Richard, MA, CCC-SLP is a Speech-Language Pathologist in San Diego Unified School District and an Indiana University graduate. She provides small group and classroom intervention to caseload and at-risk students. Jennifer is also the Coordinator for the Phonology & Articulation Resource Center, applying research and supporting SLPs in articulation and phonological intervention through staff development, consultation, and coaching. She owns SLPath, a private company committed to promoting best practices in speech sound disorder intervention through online resources and intensive workshops.

About Marisha: Marisha earned her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington. She has worked as a school-based SLP and shares therapy ideas and resources on her blog (SLP Now). Marisha also developed a membership for SLPs that includes digital tools and resources to streamline evidence-based therapy.
