Course Preview:
This course will explore and demonstrates teaching methods that help create and implement effective lesson plans for students of diverse cultures, socioeconomic conditions, and abilities. It includes a study of how students learn, retain, and apply their knowledge. It teaches concepts that help in building academic skills and student motivation. This course will provide several examples of strategies and techniques that show how to get the learning off the page, into the classroom, inside the student and out the door.It is focused for educators, SLPs, SLPAs, OTRs, and anyone else who works in an educational environment.


 Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe various teaching methods and employ several in each lesson taught.
  • Apply skills in taking textbook/workbook content and make it more active and engaging.
  • Create a safe environment for learning that is contentious of the moral/ethical development of the students served.
  • Describe the diversity of the student population with regards to a variety of intelligences, abilities, temperament, personality, and cultural influences that can be accommodated through the use of a variety of teaching methods.
  • Explain how students learn, retain, and apply their knowledge.
About Gale: Dr. Gale Gorke has been a public school educator nearly 30 years, teaching at both the elementary and secondary levels. She currently is the Executive Director of Kids Kan Inc., an organization that specializes in staff development, activity selection and program implementation. Gale has served as an adjunct professor in the School of Education for both La Sierra University and Chapman University. Her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction focused on academic intervention in after school programs and her Ed.S. is in School Psychology. She effectively models teaching that accommodates for all student’s ability levels and reflects a keen awareness of adolescent development and brain-based learning principles.  Her enthusiasm is contagious! Gale believes that the best way to learn is through play and the way you show up for the game is the way you show up for life.
