In this course, participants will gain and in depth understanding of what causes and exasperates a conflict and how it manifests at an emotional, biological and cognitive level within individuals. Skills for addressing and managing conflict with clients and client’s family members will be taught and attendees will have an opportunity to practice these in the workshop. Techniques for dealing with extreme crisis and potentially violent behavior will also be instructed. Finally, participants will be shown how to use these skills in the context of dealing with co-worker and colleague conflict situations and opportunities to practice these skills will be provided as well

After this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the factors that can increase or decrease conflict at an environmental, emotional, biological and cognitive level
  2. Explain the trajectory of conflict behavior and understand which management strategies work better at different points
  3. Identify the our role as professionals in either escalating or deescalating the crisis
  4. Summarize and practice active listening skills
  5. Apply various different structuring techniques to manage behavior
  6. Demonstrate how to safety deal with potentially violent behavior
  7. Apply any of these skills to coworker conflict situations
About Allison: Allison Ewing, L.C.S.W., the founder of Inspired Life Tapping, is an EFT practitioner as well as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 19 years of experience in mental health. Allison spent many years providing mental health treatment to individuals, families and groups, primarily working with clients who had histories of extensive trauma and/or mental illness. In more recent years, Allison has worked primarily in an administrative and training capacity. She provided training and consultation to many social service and residential treatment facilities in Illinois and has been asked to lecture at workshops and conferences all across the country. Her current passion is for using mind/body techniques to accelerate clients’ emotional healing. Presently, Allison sees individual clients and she teaches workshops on various topics in her areas of expertise including Emotional Freedom Technique, mindfulness, meditation, trauma response, self-harm prevention and crisis deescalation/conflict resolution skills.
