In this episode Michelle is joined by Kevin Nourse, PhD, PCC, an executive coach, leadership development expert, author, and speaker with over 20 years of experience developing resilient change leaders, and one of the gurus behind the ASHA Leadership Development Program!  Somewhere along the path of life, you may have had a “Bad Boss”, which spurred you on to wanting to take a Leadership Role to lead a team the “Right Way”… well those leadership skills, both the “bad” and the “good” are based upon an individual’s Emotional Intelligence.  Today, Dr. Nourse shares insight into what Emotional Intelligence is, how it impacts leadership in the workforce, and how to evolve your own Emotional Intelligence to become the #SLPLIKEABOSS that you want to be!

Objective

By the end of this podcourse, participants will be able to identify and describe:

  1. Three components of Emotional Intelligence.
  2. How Emotional Intelligence impacts Leadership in the workforce.
  3. Three ways in which a person can improve their Emotional Intelligence to positively impact their Leadership style.
About Michelle: Michelle Dawson, MS, CCC-SLP is an accomplished lecturer and PEDs Therapist, she has written and given numerous ASHA approved CEU lectures on such topics as Infantile Spasm and Oropharyngeal Dysphagia, along with Apps and ST, and co-authored a course on Best Practices in EI. She has also given an AOTA-approved lecture on Sensory Integration from the SLP perspective. Michelle has delivered lectures at the SCSHA Convention and twice with the SCATP Expo. 

About Cheri: Cheri Fraker, CCC/SLP, CLC is an ASHA certified pediatric speech pathologist who earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Speech Language Pathology from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois, in 1986.  Cheri specializes in evaluation and treatment of pediatric feeding/swallowing disorders and is lead therapist for the pediatric feeding team at The Center for Selective Eating and Pediatric Feeding Disorders and the SIU-Koke Mill Pediatric Swallowing Clinic in Springfield, Illinois. Cheri’s work in feeding is recognized internationally. She developed the techniques of Pre-Chaining and Food Chaining. She has lectured on PreChaining and Food Chaining therapy for pediatric feeding disorders at ASHA, the UCLA/UMH Nutrition Leadership Conference, The American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, The North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, The Neonatal Nutrition Conference and The Neonatal Update Conference at UMass.  She is the co-author of the books “Evaluation and Treatment of Pediatric Feeding Disorders: From NICU to Childhood” and "Food Chaining: The Six Step Solution to Stop Picky Eating, Solve Feeding Problems and Expand Your Child's Diet." She was co-author of a journal article on Food Chaining in Nutrition in Clinical Practice. Cheri teaches continuing education courses through her private business, Preemietalk and has developed an online Food Chaining course through Northern Speech Services. Cheri is a cancer survivor and most recently using Food Chaining in Oncology Rehab.
