In this episode Michelle is joined by Donna Edwards, an Associate Professor, author, inventor, national/international speaker and Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders at Baldwin Wallace University. Now we have all felt isolated in the world of Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Disorders, especially when it comes to evidenced based strategies for evaluations and interventions…overlooked by the massive amount of data for our adult peers and the apparent scant for pediatrics…but that changes today!  Donna is here to provide her inside first hand experience, knowledge, and expertise about the amazing endeavors that are being undertaken by various organizations, (BCS-S, The Dysphagia Research Society, and ASHA SIG 13), to not only fill the void, but to propel us forward!! Three cheers and “Hooah” are in order for this uplifting hour!

  1. The steps towards earning a BCS-S.
  2. The mission and purpose of The Dysphagia Research Society and how it supports the Pediatric SLP with EBP.
  3. Mission and purpose of ASHA SIG-13 and how it supports the Pediatric SLP with EBP.
About Donna: Donna Edwards, an Associate Professor, author, inventor, national/international speaker and Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders at Baldwin Wallace University. Worked with adults in extended care and Level 1 Trauma Hospital as the Dysphagia Coordinator in acute care and all rehab teams. She has served in the public schools and SNFS. She recently transitioned from serving an inpatient/outpatient pediatric medically complex population at the hospital to working in higher education. She currently serves as Chair of The American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders Mentorship Committee and member of the Application Committee.

About Michelle: Michelle Dawson, MS, CCC-SLP is an accomplished lecturer and PEDs Therapist, she has written and given numerous ASHA approved CEU lectures on such topics as Infantile Spasm and Oropharyngeal Dysphagia, along with Apps and ST, and co-authored a course on Best Practices in EI. She has also given an AOTA-approved lecture on Sensory Integration from the SLP perspective.  Michelle has delivered lectures at the SCSHA Convention and twice with the SCATP Expo.
