Presenters: Michelle L.W. Dawson and Andi Lary, MS CCC-SLP

In this episode Michelle is joined by the short but sassy Andi Lary, MS CCC-SLP, South Carolina’s State Advocate for Reimbursement (STAR) with ASHA, as well as Owner of The Therapy Consortium, Inc., and Owner-Director of One Stop Therapy for Kids.  While she wears a variety of proverbial hats, in addition to being a phenomenal clinician, Andi has a true passion for seeing colleagues be successful managing their own private practices.  She is a widely respected speaker on all “thangs” private practice and in this episode, Andi lays it out some of the most common pitfalls that new business owners make and how to persevere through them!

Objective

By the end of this PodCourse, participants will be able to identify and:

  1. Describe 3 guidelines they should be following as private practice SLPs.
  2. Explain 3 critical elements that need to be included in their documentation.
  3. Describe 2 common corners that private practice SLPs “cut” and remedies to fix those errors.
About Andi: Andi Lary, MS CCC-SLP, a New York native, began her adventurous career in the wild world of Early Intervention Private Practice for Speech Language Pathologists in 1980 while traversing snow capped mountains in Maine.  Since that time she has worked for and established various home health agencies in Calabash, NC and Horry County, SC, all with the aim of treating pediatric populations in their natural environment.  Since settling in Mrytle Beach, SC, she has seen her single-shack clinic expand to having 18 staff members/therapists at her clinic, One Stop Therapy for Kids, as well as creating a second business, Therapy Consortium, where she completes billing for 65 contractors that are PTs, OTs, and SLPs.  This petite, but fierce package, doesn’t stop there though…she also serves as SC’s ASHA Star Representative, regularly advocating for billing and reimbursement issues in the Palmetto State.

About Michelle: Michelle Dawson, MS, CCC-SLP is an accomplished lecturer and PEDs Therapist, she has written and given numerous ASHA approved CEU lectures on such topics as Infantile Spasm and Oropharyngeal Dysphagia, along with Apps and ST, and co-authored a course on Best Practices in EI.  She has also given an AOTA-approved lecture on Sensory Integration from the SLP perspective.  Michelle has delivered lectures at the SCSHA Convention and twice with the SCATP Expo.
