In this course, Char shared over ten easy-to-apply techniques to improve the success of parent eligibility and IEP meetings.  She detailed strategies on how to prepare for meetings, the meeting mindset, the value of teamwork and how to get it, a view from the parent’s perspective, how to present information clearly, kids at meetings, and how to develop positive perceptions and parental support.

By the conclusion of this Podcourse, participants will be able to: 

  1. Provide at least three ways to prepare for a parent meeting. 
  2. Describe at least two teamwork strategies to add to Eligibility Meetings 
  3. Briefly explain two reasons a therapy-child should be at an IEP Meeting. 
  4. Briefly describe two items to emphasize to parents about speech/language homework.

About Char: Char Boshart is a therapist, seminar presenter, author, podcast host, and president of Speech Dynamics. She graduated with her Masters from Western Michigan University and began her career in the public schools. Since that time, she’s worked many years in the schools, in the clinical setting, private practice, and as an Assistant Professor and Department Chair at Loma Linda University.

Since 1993, she has presented numerous well-received articulation and language presentations through Speech Dynamics, SpeechTherapypd.com, as well as through the Bureau of Education and Research (BER).  She writes a weekly blog called “Therapy Matters” and is the host of the podcast, The Speech Link, and is the author of the well-received book, The Easy R.
