Teaching Children To Take Responsibility for Their Schoolwork

Modern children are under a tremendous amount of pressure to succeed at school. Children who are struggling academically are working at a great disadvantage. Clinicians need to learn new techniques that can help support, motivate and encourage these students without enabling them. Clinicians can learn to help children develop academic skills that are self-directed relieving the pressure. Clinicians can offer support and teach these techniques to parent, so that they to can help children develop positive attitudes about their academic capabilities.


Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define Learned Helplessness
  • List techniques to help parents motivate their children to learn
  • Distinguish between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset
  • Discuss ways to promote solution oriented thinking in our young clients

Course Timeline: 

10 minutes: Help parents foster of love of learning at home

10 minutes: Help children recognize their strengths

25 minutes: Help children develop a growth mindset

15 minutes: Asking questions to help develop responsible thinking in children
