It can be challenging to get students with language disorders to use longer, grammatically correct sentences. In this course, Dr. Dudek-Brannon delves deeply into the topic of vocabulary as it relates to syntax. It’s especially frustrating when we want our students to correctly use target vocabulary words in sentences and they struggle; you’ll learn why they struggle and what to do about it. In addition, you’ll learn the secrets to troubleshooting and getting students to add complexity to their sentences by teaching them specific rules of syntax. Ever wonder how to use “kid-friendly” language to explain difficult concepts (like challenging Tier 2 words or conjunctions)? She’ll cover that, too.

Char Boshart, MA, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist, author, seminar presenter, and president and co-founder of Speech Dynamics, Inc. She graduated with her Master’s degree from Western Michigan University under the extraordinary tutelage of Dr. Charles Van Riper, the “father” of articulation therapy during the final years of his illustrious career. Char began her career in the public schools in the early 70’s with a caseload of over 110 children. Since then, she has worked many years in the public schools, developed and ran her own private practice, and, for seven years was an Assistant Professor and Department Chair of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department at Loma Linda University in southern California. Her interest in creating effective therapy techniques has evolved into the development of several practical articulation publications, videos (articulation and language), and articles.

Karen Dudek-Brannan received her bachelor’s degree in 2002, and master’s in 2004 in speech-language pathology from Illinois State University. She immediately began working in the schools as a speech-language therapist. She started her postgraduate work in 2005, then in 2014 received her doctorate in special education also from Illinois State University. She holds certificates in Assistive Technology and in Director of Special Education. Her research focused on vocabulary and metalinguistic strategies and has been published in several peer-reviewed journals. She has taught several graduate-level courses. Karen is adept at analyzing problems and generating with solutions. She helps SLPs make therapy breakthroughs via her weekly blog, her programs and resources, and through her practical online training program called “Language Therapy Advance Premium.” And all of this can be found at DrKarenSpeech.com. Currently, she does online therapy and consulting.
